About Carrington Coleman

Carrington Coleman is a top tier law firm on the small end of the large firm scale. We offer a sophisticated practice without the bureaucratic hassles and other disadvantages of the much larger firms. We seek attorneys who have the motivation to work hard and produce excellent results for their clients, not to meet or beat a billable hours quota. (We don't have one.) While the Firm continues to be ranked among the first in academic credentials among the tier of largest Dallas firms, we try not to take ourselves too seriously. We enjoy playing as well as working together and field spirited and occasionally talented teams in the Dallas Bar Association sports leagues. Friday afternoon gatherings at a nearby club, a 39 -year-old tradition, are well attended by partners and associates alike, perhaps in part because the firm picks up the bill, and are a good place to catch up on the week's news.

At Carrington Coleman you can stretch your legal abilities to the limit, enjoy practicing law, respect your colleagues, and make a good income, all at the same time.  We are enormously proud of our Firm and are committed to our practice.  We strive to combine the diverse and sophisticated practice of a large firm with the close and supportive relationships and informal atmosphere of a small one.  All attorneys, from the most senior partner to the most junior associate, are on a first name basis.  It is a great pleasure to be around highly qualified people who do not remind you of it all the time.

The Firm is profiled in Kimm Walton's book "America's Greatest Places to Work with a Law Degree." In addition to describing an environment where associates really enjoy their work, Ms. Walton notes the diverse personalities and interests of the Firm's lawyers reflected in the brief lawyer biographies in the Firm resume: Along with founding partner Jim Coleman, who skydives and canoes, she notes "lawyers who collect model trains, play 'mediocre golf,' share their daughter's 'uncertainty about careers and romance'...Room Dads for fourth graders, and a lawyer who plays Latin percussion..."

We represent a broad range of clients, from local companies and individuals to large national and international corporations. The Firm's practice emphasis includes complex litigation of all kinds, sophisticated business and real estate transactional matters, and corporate insolvency and restructuring. Within these broad areas of emphasis, lawyers have practices that focus on antitrust, appeals, aviation, bankruptcy, commercial finance, corporate, employment, environmental, estate planning, healthcare, insurance coverage, intellectual property, litigation, oil and gas, products liability, professional liability, real estate, securities, and taxation. We do not operate within rigid departments or require lawyers to commit to specific areas of specialization, though a growing number of our lawyers do choose to specialize. A survey published in "International Corporate Law" ranked the Firm's litigation section among the top ten in the United States.

Our pro bono practice, for which the Firm has received numerous awards, extends to a wide range of individuals and community organizations, including the South Dallas Legal Clinic, the Dallas Legal Hospice, Lawyers Against Domestic Violence, the Center for Non-Profit Management, various local and national charities, and many other projects.
